Athletics and activities

The ancient Olympic Games, called the Olympiad, were held in honour of the head deity, Zeus, and featured various forms of religious dedication to him and other gods. As many Greeks travelled to see the games, this combination of religion and sport also served as a way of uniting them. A study of US elections has shown that the result of sports events can affect the results.

Working together is an important trait in today’s life and learning how to do so early on helps kids become better team players in professional life. Each September, the KSHSAA collects student enrollment data from member high schools for students in their sophomore, junior and senior classes. The largest 32 schools become 6A, the next largest 32 become 5A, the next 64 become 4A, 3A, and 2A respectively and the remaining schools become class 1A.

New classifications are established each school year in all activities except for football, which uses a two-year cycle and a different counting method. USD 383 also requires a completed athletic packet to be turned in with the physical and on file prior to any athletic participation. Both the completed KSHSAA physical form and the athletic packet must be filled out and signed by both the student athlete and the parent/guardian before being turned in together to the MHS Athletic Office, MHSW S-102.

Kids playing sports learn to interact not only with kids their age, but also with the older and younger players on the team, the coach, sports authorities, etc. They also develop a sense of belonging and get an opportunity to make new friends. These communication and social skills help them in their future relationships and careers.

Each of these versions have helped to make the game more accessible for younger audiences. One of the most important goals is to find physical activities and sports that your child enjoys and that encourage a lifetime of staying active and fit. Consider children’s sports and other kid-friendly physical activities. Children’s sports promote fitness, but not everyone thrives in formal leagues.
